Currently, 65% of Morris Brown College students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and access to a college education has been deemed unaffordable or impossible for many young African Americans due to their socio-economic backgrounds. According to the White House Initiative on Education Excellence, 48% of all African American graduates owe more on their undergraduate loans 4 years after graduating with a bachelor’s degree compared to 17% of white graduates. The rising cost of a college education, which has increased 25% over the last 10 years, only exacerbates the financial burden placed on future HBCU students.
That is why the work of the MBC Foundation and its efforts to raise funds for student scholarships and other institutional support is so important. With your help, we can give our young people hope that attending college is possible and even affordable. Together, we can help ensure that these young people are not debt-laden with student loans when they graduate and begin to counter the trend shown in current statistics. The ability to do this is helped by Morris Brown's annual tuition of only $8,500; this means that your donated dollars will go further to defray the cost of education and allow us to collectively support more students.
